AI Assistant — Create Cards, Stacks & Canvases with AI
The NoteDex AI Assistant lets you describe what you need in plain language and it generates cards, stacks, or canvases for you instantly. You can also ask general questions and attach files or web links as source material.
Opening the AI Assistant
Click the wand icon (✦) in the top bar — available from the Home page and from inside any stack.
The AI panel slides open on the left side of the screen.
What the AI Can Do
The AI introduces itself with examples of what you can ask:
> "Create a stack that outlines the movie Top Gun"
> "Create a set of Quantum Physics Flashcards"
> "Create a canvas that outlines a software project plan"
You can also ask general questions (like ChatGPT), and attach files or paste web links to give the AI source material to use when creating your cards.
Quick Action Buttons
At the top of the panel, three buttons let you jump straight in:
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| Create a Card | Prompts the AI to generate a single card |
| Create a Stack | Prompts the AI to generate a full stack of cards |
| Create a Canvas | Prompts the AI to generate a canvas layout |
Click any button to pre-fill the prompt with a starting point, then describe your topic.
Typing a Prompt
- Click in the "What do you want to create?" input box at the bottom of the panel.
- Type your request in plain language. Be as descriptive as you like.
- Click Send (the blue arrow button) or press Enter.
- The AI generates the content and adds it directly to your workspace.
Example Prompts
- "Create a stack of flashcards for learning Spanish verbs"
- "Make a weekly planner card with sections for priorities, tasks, and notes"
- "Create a canvas for brainstorming a new product launch"
- "Summarize the key points from this article" (paste a URL or attach a file)
Example
"Create a stack of flashcards for learning Spanish Verbs' - Once you click the Blue 'Start' icon it will think about the task and then prompt you to confirm what to do:
You will see it asks you to confirm 'As Cards' - meaning it will create cards. It also gives you the chance to tell it to make a Canvas instead 'As Canvas'. It also tells you what it will create and you an preview what it will do. In this example we see it will create the spanish verb cards as asked for.
- Click the Green button to select 'As Cards'
It will then ask you which Stack to create the new cards in - you can also select '+ New Stack'

- Click on '+ New Stack'
It will then ask if you want to create a cover image for the new stack

- Click 'Yes' (or No)
It will then ask you to select the image style

- Let's pick 'Artistic'
The stacks is created with a cover image! If we click inside we'll see the AI cards...and being flashcards they have both text on the front and back for you to study!
Attaching Files & Web Links
The AI can use external content as source material for generating cards:
- Click Attach file below the input box to upload a document (PDF, text file, etc.).
- Or paste a web link directly into the prompt — the AI will read the page and use it as context. NoteDex will retrieve the text from the weblink, even YouTube videos - and use it to create the cards.
This is useful for turning an article, a document, or a web page into a set of cards automatically.
The Focus Indicator
Above the input box, a small label shows the current context: Focus: Workspace: Home (or whichever workspace/stack you're in). The AI creates content within this context by default.
Starting a New Conversation
Click the + button at the top of the AI panel to start a fresh conversation, clearing the current session.

Closing the AI Panel
Click ✕ at the top of the panel, or click the wand icon again, to close the assistant and return to full-screen view.
