0. How to Login

Signing Up & Logging In to NoteDex

This guide covers how to create a NoteDex account, sign in, reset your password, and what to expect on your first visit.

The NoteDex Landing Page

When you visit https://notedex.app, you land on the welcome page. You will see:

  • A Sign Up button — for creating a new account
  • A Log In link — for returning users
  • A short description: "You can use your existing Microsoft, Google and Apple ID to sign-up quickly."
  • A note: "Sign-Up for a free 7 Day Trial — No Credit Card Needed."

Both the Sign Up button and the Log In link lead to the same login screen — NoteDex detects whether you are a new or returning user automatically.

Video guide: A short walkthrough of sign-up and sign-in is available on the NoteDex sign-in page.

Choosing How to Sign In

NoteDex supports four ways to authenticate:

Method Best for
Microsoft account Office 365, Outlook, or any Microsoft account
Google account Gmail or any Google account
Apple ID iPhone, iPad, or Mac users Apple account
NoteDex account Anyone who prefers a separate email + password

All options are presented on the same sign-in screen — choose whichever you prefer.

Important: Once you choose a sign-in method, always use the same method on every device. If you sign in with Google on your laptop but try Microsoft on your phone, you will be logged into a different account and your cards will not be visible. Pick one provider and stick with it.

Signing Up with Google, Microsoft, or Apple

  1. Click Sign Up (or Log In) on the landing page.
  2. The sign-in screen appears, showing buttons for Google, Microsoft, and Apple.
  3. Click your preferred provider.
  4. You are redirected to that provider's sign-in page (Google, Microsoft, or Apple).
  5. Sign in with your existing account credentials — NoteDex never sees your password.
  6. You are redirected back to NoteDex and signed in automatically.
  7. If this is your first time, the Welcome onboarding tour begins (see below).

Remember that when you use a 'social' login like these, we at NoteDex do not manage your password. It is manged by the provider.

Signing Up with a NoteDex Account (Email + Password)

If you do not want to use a social provider, you can create a dedicated NoteDex account:

  1. Click Sign Up on the landing page.
  2. On the sign-in screen, look for the email/password sign-up option.
  3. Enter your email address and click Send Verification Code.
  4. Check your email inbox — NoteDex sends you a verification code.
  5. Type the code into the verification field.
  6. Click Verify Code — you should see "Email address verified".
  7. Enter your chosen password and click Create.
  8. Your account is created and you are signed in automatically.

If you don't receive the code: Check your spam/junk folder. If it's still not there, try again using a different email address, or use a social sign-in option instead.

Logging In as a Returning User

Returning users follow the same flow:

  1. Click Log In on the landing page.
  2. Choose the same sign-in method you used when you first signed up.
  3. Complete your provider's sign-in (Google, Microsoft, Apple) or enter your email and password.
  4. You are returned to the NoteDex Home page with all your cards and stacks intact.

  2. Enter the email address linked to your NoteDex account.
  3. NoteDex sends you a verification code by email.
  4. Enter the code to confirm your identity.
  5. Set your new password.

Troubleshooting Sign-In Problems

"Please check your network connection!"

NoteDex cannot reach the authentication server. Check that you have an active internet connection and try again.

"We were unable to login — please try again"

A temporary issue occurred during sign-in. Reload the page and try again. If the problem persists, try a different browser or device.

"There was a problem. Please close and restart the app."

An unexpected error occurred. Close and reopen the NoteDex app or reload the browser tab.

Sign-in screen doesn't load / spins indefinitely

  • Try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows/Chrome, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac).
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies for notedex.app.
  • Try a different browser.
  • Uninstall the app.

I signed up but my cards aren't showing on another device

Make sure you signed in with the exact same provider on both devices. Mixing providers creates separate accounts.

I was a previous Index Cards user

Log in using the same credentials you used for Index Cards for Windows. Your previous cards appear in read-only mode, and there is an in-app option to convert them into full NoteDex cards.
